OUR STORY

HISTORY
OF
TEMPEST

By 2007, Freerunning had just begun to make it’s way to Hollywood, but Paul “Diddy” Darnell, Victor “Showtime” Lopez, Rich “Dickie Boy” King and Gabe “Jaywalker” Nunez had already made that journey. They were a storm, a driving force in the brand new world of Freerunning. With just a camera and a bag of new tricks, Tempest set out to make the Freerunning world into a legit street culture by taking a band of insanely talented misfits, rebels, and outsiders and throwing their style, creativity, and the Los Angeles lifestyle into the sport.

Following a dominating showing at the first ever Red Bull Art of Motion in Vienna (2007), along with the release of the game-changing video ‘I FREERUN LA’, the team’s following grew. Tempest began recruiting top notch athletes who proudly carry the name by challenging the norm with a LIVE FREE RUN WILD attitude. As Tempest has grown into a vibrant young action sports company it stays dedicated to the growth and spread of Freerunning. Now the sport can be seen in every major action film with Tempest Pros doubling characters in movies such as Avengers, Justice League, Ghostbusters, X-Men, and in video games like Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted.

In 2011 Tempest opened the first of its ground breaking Tempest Freerunning Academies in LA. With the most decorated Pro team in the world, some of the most watched freerunning videos of all time, and a new bigger Academy opening in South Bay the team set their eyes on perfecting the only thing a freerunner really needs. 2014 saw the release of the now iconic NLS-1 shoe. Designed by freerunners for freerunning, it elevated freerunning to the next level and the signature #orangebottoms were a tribute the history of the Tempest Family.

Tempest continues to drive the sport of freerunning with its international sponsored athletes, innovative Academies, trendsetting apparel, new shoes, and next level media. Freerunning may have been born in France, but LA is where it thrives and Tempest will continue bringing it to the world.
